EXTERIOR
Finished in factory Nero, the bodywork presents with one of the most timeless and elegant color combinations available on a 550 Maranello.

AUDIO SYSTEM
While audio modifications are often viewed cautiously by Ferrari enthusiasts, this example presents one of the more thoughtfully executed period-correct upgrades we have encountered.
Although documentation regarding the original installation date is not available, the components and design suggest the work was performed years ago by an owner seeking improved sound quality without compromising the character of the car. The system features a McIntosh MC440 power amplifier, upgraded component speakers, upgraded tweeters, and Kicker subwoofers discreetly integrated behind the seats.
The quality of the equipment selected is immediately evident, and the installation appears professionally executed with significant attention paid to fit, finish, and preserving the overall appearance of the interior. No corners appear to have been cut, with premium components utilized throughout and the finished product carefully integrated to complement the cabin rather than distract from it.
Factory Ferrari audio systems of this era were never particularly known for their sound quality, especially when attempting to enjoy music at highway speeds with a V12 soundtrack only inches away. This upgraded system addresses those shortcomings while maintaining a tasteful presentation that remains highly functional and enjoyable today. Importantly, the original Ferrari Becker head unit remains with the vehicle, allowing future ownership the flexibility to retain the upgraded system or return the car to factory specification if desired.
Aside from the audio system enhancements described above, we are not aware of any other modifications to the vehicle.
RECENT SERVICE & INSPECTION
In preparation for sale, MOTORVAULT encouraged the current owner to address the major service items buyers immediately look for on a Ferrari 550 Maranello. Rather than offering the vehicle with deferred maintenance, the decision was made to create a clean mechanical baseline for the next caretaker.
In May 2026, more than $12,000 was invested at Artisan Auto Indy to perform a comprehensive major service. This investment included replacement of the timing belts, drive belts, spark plugs, engine oil service, coolant service, brake fluid service, power steering fluid service, transmission fluid service, rear differential service, secondary ignition wiring loom replacement, ignition system inspection and servicing, wheel preparation, and a comprehensive mechanical inspection. In addition, the vehicle received a new set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires in June 2026. The factory wheels were cleaned and road-force balanced during installation.
Importantly, this recent service follows a documented Continental Autosports major timing belt service completed in April 2018 at 20,449 miles totaling more than $8,300. That work included timing belts, accessory belts, fluid services, filters, battery replacement, brake servicing, fuel system inspection, and a comprehensive safety inspection.
Combined, the last two major service events represent more than $20,000 invested into maintaining and preserving this Ferrari. In addition to servicing all major fluids, belts, and wear items, the clutch, braking system, and other critical mechanical components were inspected. Technician notes indicate front brake pads measure greater than 9mm while rear brake pads measure approximately 11mm, with the rear pads effectively new. Front brake rotors display only a minor 0.5mm edge lip with no evidence of glazing or cracking and are estimated to retain approximately 75% of their service life.
Equally important, the recent inspection confirmed no immediate mechanical needs. Combined with the recent major service and tire replacement, this Ferrari offers the next owner a level of mechanical confidence that is increasingly uncommon among collector-grade 550 Maranellos.
The overall conclusion from servicing was simple: this is a well-preserved, properly maintained example that is ready to be driven and enjoyed.
OUR IMPRESSION
We spend a significant amount of time around Ferrari 550 Maranellos, and what stands out most about this example is how complete and honest it feels. The ownership history makes sense, the mileage progression makes sense, the service history makes sense, and the recent investment by the current owner demonstrates a commitment to stewardship rather than simply preparing a car for sale. The combination of RM Sotheby's Elkhart Collection provenance, long-term enthusiast ownership, recent major servicing, complete accessories, and a mileage level that encourages use rather than discourages it creates a compelling ownership proposition. This is not a museum piece that demands preservation, nor is it a tired driver requiring immediate investment.
