OVERVIEW

MOTORVAULT is pleased to offer this 1967 Jaguar XKE Series I 4.2 Roadster, chassis 1E15654, finished in its factory Pale Primrose Yellow and currently showing 27,026 miles.

Built May 26, 1967 and dispatched June 22, 1967, this is a late-production Series I roadster featuring the uncovered-headlamp configuration associated with the transition toward what is commonly referred to as the Series 1½.

Jaguar Heritage documentation identifies chassis 1E15654 with engine 7E13382-9, body 4E7512 and gearbox EJ14621. Historical documentation identifies the engine and gearbox as original to the car, and the corresponding engine number has been documented on both the cylinder head and engine block.

The Jaguar underwent a comprehensive mechanical and cosmetic restoration primarily between 2012 and 2014. Mechanical work was performed by British Motor Company of Eugene, Oregon, while body, paint and final assembly were handled by Fenders & Fins in Woodinville, Washington. BAS Ltd. supplied the interior and convertible top materials, with additional components sourced from SNG Barratt, XK's Unlimited, Hendrix Wire Wheel and other Jaguar specialists.

A substantial binder accompanies the car and contains restoration photographs, invoices, estimates, parts lists, correspondence and historical records documenting the project as it progressed.

Additional mechanical service was completed in 2023, and the Jaguar has accumulated relatively limited indicated mileage since completion of the restoration. It is currently titled in Indiana under the correct chassis number 1E15654 with a normal title and no brands shown.

The car remains finished in its documented factory Pale Primrose Yellow exterior color. The current Saddle/Cognac interior and tan convertible top were installed during restoration and represent changes from the original black interior and black hood specification.

HISTORY & OWNERSHIP

Historical documentation accompanying the Jaguar provides a detailed picture of its previous ownership, restoration and subsequent care. A previous owner's questionnaire states that the car had two known owners at that point and had reportedly been stored for approximately 12 years before being acquired in December 2010. The questionnaire identifies the engine as original and describes the subsequent work as a professional restoration.

Beginning in 2012, the Jaguar underwent extensive mechanical refurbishment by British Motor Company of Eugene, Oregon. The project subsequently progressed through body and paint restoration by Fenders & Fins in Woodinville, Washington, with BAS Ltd. supplying the interior and convertible top materials. Numerous components were sourced from Jaguar specialists including SNG Barratt, XK's Unlimited, Hendrix Wire Wheel and others.

Following completion of the restoration, the Jaguar was offered by Park Place Ltd. in Bellevue, Washington in 2015. Documentation from that offering remains with the car and records 26,782 miles at the time.

Additional mechanical attention was completed in 2023, including rebuilding the carburetors and radiator along with replacement of the heater core, spark plugs, thermostat, temperature sending unit and cooling fan assembly.

The Jaguar was offered through Bring a Trailer in June 2024, providing an additional detailed photographic and ownership record for the car. The current ownership acquired the Jaguar shortly thereafter, with the Indiana title recording a purchase date of June 24, 2024.

The current Indiana title identifies the vehicle as a 1967 Jaguar XKE under chassis 1E15654, carries a Normal title type with no brands shown and records the odometer as exempt. The Jaguar showed 26,861 miles when acquired by the current owner in June 2024 and currently displays 27,026 miles, reflecting approximately 165 indicated miles during current ownership.

RESTORATION & SERVICE HISTORY

2012–2013 MECHANICAL REFURBISHMENT

Before the cosmetic restoration was completed, the Jaguar underwent extensive mechanical refurbishment by British Motor Company of Eugene, Oregon.

Correspondence from May 2012 outlines a comprehensive program intended to return the E-Type to safe and reliable operating condition following its extended period of storage.

The initial estimate was approximately $11,250. A final British Motor Company invoice dated October 1, 2013 documents approximately $13,118 in mechanical work, parts and outside services.

Documented work included:

• Gear-reduction starter installed
• Ignition wires, points, condenser and spark plugs replaced
• Fuel tank removed, cleaned, repaired and sealed
• Fuel pump replaced
• Steering rack removed and rebuilt
• Steering column removed and fitted with new bushings
• Front suspension rebuilt with new joints and bushings
• Front shocks replaced
• Rear subframe removed
• Rear differential disassembled and rebuilt
• Rear differential shafts rebuilt
• Rear suspension fitted with new bearings, seals and U-joints
• Rear shocks replaced
• Brake calipers rebuilt or replaced as required

• Brake master cylinder replaced

The accompanying invoice includes an extensive parts list supporting the work, including suspension bearings and bushings, U-joints, steering components, brake components, ignition parts, hoses, seals, filters and associated hardware.

This portion of the history demonstrates that the restoration went considerably beyond cosmetic refurbishment.

2014 BODY & PAINT RESTORATION

Body and paint work was performed by Fenders & Fins Inc. of Woodinville, Washington.

Restoration photographs show the Jaguar at multiple stages of the project, including disassembly, removal of the bonnet, body preparation, primer and refinishing before final assembly.

The body was refinished in its documented factory Pale Primrose Yellow.

Fenders & Fins records document extensive disassembly, preparation, panel work, refinishing and reassembly. Individual estimates document substantial body and paint labor, including one phase totaling approximately 61 hours of body work and 17 hours of paint work and another totaling approximately 45 hours of body work and 34 hours of paint work.

Work documented throughout the restoration included attention to:

The previous owner's restoration questionnaire indicates that the doors retained their original sheet metal while the floorboards were replaced during the restoration.

BAS INTERIOR & CONVERTIBLE TOP

The cabin was comprehensively restored using materials supplied by BAS Ltd., a Jaguar interior trim specialist.

Period correspondence between the previous owner and BAS specifically identifies the car as a Series I project and documents the selection and preparation of the interior package.

A BAS estimate dated March 10, 2014 identifies the vehicle as a: 1967 E-Type Series I 4.2 Roadster, LHD / Manual

The approximately $6,175 estimate covered a Major Interior Trim Kit with Sunfast cloth convertible top and boot cover along with additional components required to complete the cabin.

The restoration included extensive attention to the Jaguar's brightwork, lighting, weather seals and exterior hardware.

ENGINE & DRIVETRAIN

Power comes from Jaguar's 4.2-liter DOHC XK inline-six equipped with triple SU carburetors and paired with a four-speed full-synchromesh manual transmission.

The Jaguar Heritage documentation identifies the original engine as: 7E13382-9

The corresponding number has been documented on both the cylinder head and engine block.

The gearbox is identified in the Heritage documentation as: EJ14621

Historical documentation associated with the car identifies both the engine and gearbox as original to chassis 1E15654. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential, which was rebuilt during the 2012–2013 mechanical refurbishment.

WHEELS & TIRES

The Jaguar rides on 15x6 chrome wire wheels secured by traditional two-eared knock-offs. Restoration documentation includes a March 2014 Hendrix Wire Wheel repair order for four JB156 15x6 chrome wire wheels, along with tubes, mounting and balancing. Contemporary correspondence further notes that the body shop traveled directly to Dayton to obtain the wheels and tires.

The wheels are currently fitted with 205/70 VR15 96V tires. Visible DOT date codes of 4913 and 5013 indicate late-2013 production, and measured tread depth is approximately 9/32-inch. Due to their age, replacement is recommended before regular road use regardless of remaining tread depth.

The documentation file also includes a September 2012 Universal Vintage Tire invoice for five 185HR15 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, providing additional history from the restoration period.

2023 MECHANICAL SERVICE

Approximately a decade after the major restoration, the Jaguar received another round of mechanical attention in 2023.

Documented work included:

• Radiator rebuilt/re-cored
• Heater core replaced

• Thermostat replaced
• Temperature sending unit replaced
• Cooling fan assembly replaced

This work addressed several important fuel, ignition and cooling-system components prior to the car's 2024 sale.

RESTORATION TIMELINE

2012
Mechanical evaluation and refurbishment began following the car's extended period of storage. Five Vredestein Sprint Classic tires were purchased.

2013
British Motor Company completed approximately $13,118 in documented mechanical work involving the fuel, ignition, steering, suspension, differential, braking and clutch systems.

2014
Fenders & Fins performed extensive body, paint and assembly work, refinishing the car in its factory Pale Primrose Yellow.

BAS supplied the interior and convertible top package, while SNG Barratt, XK's Unlimited and other specialists supplied chrome, trim, rubber, lighting and hardware.

2015
The completed Jaguar was offered by Park Place Ltd. in Bellevue, Washington showing 26,782 miles.

2023

The Jaguar was offered through Bring a Trailer and sold for $81,750 on June 17.

The current Indiana ownership acquired the Jaguar June 24, 2024, and an Indiana title was issued July 3, 2024 under chassis 1E15654.

WHY WE LOVE IT

The E-Type is an icon, but the documentation accompanying this particular example is what separates it from many restored cars. Chassis 1E15654 combines a late Series I roadster configuration with its factory Pale Primrose Yellow exterior, Jaguar Heritage documentation and a matching-number 4.2-liter engine documented by stamping on both the cylinder head and block.

More importantly, the restoration history is unusually transparent. The accompanying binder contains photographs of the car during restoration, mechanical invoices, body-shop records, interior specifications, supplier quotations, receipts, parts lists and correspondence generated while the work was underway.

The records demonstrate that the project was not simply cosmetic. Before the body and interior restoration was completed, British Motor Company undertook substantial work to the suspension, steering, differential, braking, clutch, fuel and ignition systems.

The Saddle/Cognac interior and tan convertible top differ from the car's original black specification and are disclosed accordingly, while the exterior remains in its documented original Pale Primrose Yellow color.

Later mechanical attention in 2023, matching chassis information across the Heritage documentation and current Indiana title, and an odometer currently showing just 27,026 miles round out a well-documented E-Type that can be enjoyed without the mystery that accompanies many older restorations.
