Provenance:

When discussing the most iconic Corvettes ever produced, the 1963 Split Window stands firmly at the pinnacle. Representing a clean-sheet redesign for Chevrolet, its debut marked a turning point for the American sports car— introducing dramatic styling, improved performance, and a level of sophistication that rivaled European contemporaries. The split rear window, unique to the 1963 model year, remains one of the most recognizable and celebrated design elements in Corvette history.

This particular example was originally delivered in Daytona Blue, a striking factory color that it proudly retains today. The body wears its original lacquer finish, displaying honest patina accumulated over more than six decades of use and preservation. Subtle checking, wear, and age-related character remain intact—details that cannot be authentically recreated and are increasingly difficult to find on unrestored C2 Corvettes.

The car was later acquired by Jeff Hayes Customs as the foundation for a thoughtfully executed creative build. Unlike previous Hayes projects released to the public, this Corvette marks the first example intentionally preserved with an original patina exterior. Locating a structurally sound, visually compelling Split Window that aligned with this vision was no small task. Known for his appreciation of vehicles with history and soul, Jeff Hayes elected to leave the exterior story untouched while comprehensively reengineering what lies beneath.

Power is provided by an LS3 V8 fitted with a hot cam, delivering modern reliability and significantly improved performance over the original drivetrain. The engine is paired with an Art Morrison Sport Chassis, transforming the driving experience with contemporary suspension geometry, improved rigidity, and vastly enhanced handling characteristics compared to a stock 1963 Corvette. The result is a car that retains its iconic mid-century appearance while driving with the confidence and capability of a modern performance car.

Inside, the cabin has been refinished with Nappa Italian leather, elevating the interior with a level of craftsmanship and material quality befitting the build’s philosophy. The upholstery strikes a careful balance — luxurious without excess, modern without erasing the car’s vintage character — serving as a fitting contrast to the timeworn exterior.

Altogether, this Split Window Corvette represents a rare convergence of originality, artistry, and performance. With its factory Daytona Blue patina, modern LS3 power, Art Morrison underpinnings, and bespoke interior, it stands apart from restored examples — offering an unmistakable presence and a driving experience that far exceeds what Chevrolet could have imagined in 1963.
